Terminal Tow Tractor Destroyed in Early Morning Fire at Bintulu Port

Terminal Tow Tractor Destroyed in Early Morning Fire at Bintulu Port

No Injuries Reported as Port Firefighters Act Quickly Before Bomba Arrives

BINTULU – A terminal tow tractor was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out early this morning at the Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd premises.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre, they received a distress call at 11.55 am. In response, firefighters from the Kidurong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were deployed to the scene, which is located approximately 5 kilometres away from their station.

However, upon arrival, the Bomba team discovered that the fire had already been extinguished by Bintulu Port’s internal firefighting team.

“When we arrived, the fire involving the terminal towing tractor was already put out by the port’s emergency response team. We didn’t need to carry out any firefighting operation and were there only to monitor and ensure everything was safe,” said a JBPM spokesperson.

Preliminary findings revealed that the fire actually began at around 6.15 am, long before the fire department received the emergency call. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. The damaged vehicle, a terminal tractor often used for towing heavy cargo within the port area, was completely gutted.

The quick action by the Bintulu Port fire brigade likely prevented the fire from spreading to nearby equipment or infrastructure, which could have led to major disruptions in port operations.

This incident underscores the importance of having an active in-house emergency response team, especially in critical infrastructures like ports.
