Sarawak to Host ICMPC 2025, Boosting Science and Innovation Agenda

MIRI – Sarawak is set to welcome the global scientific community as it hosts the 17th International Conference on Materials Processing and Characterisation (ICMPC 2025) from 27 to 29 November 2025 at Imperial Hotel, Miri.

The announcement was made during a press conference at Curtin University Malaysia, attended by Pujut assemblyman and Mayor of Miri, Adam Yii Siew Yang, along with key organisers and stakeholders.

Yii highlighted that hosting ICMPC 2025 aligns with Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, particularly in talent development, research, and innovation.

“This conference provides valuable exposure for students and local industry researchers, allowing them to directly engage with international experts in materials processing and characterisation,” said Yii.

Organised by Curtin University Malaysia in collaboration with Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology (GRIET), India, the event is backed by the Sarawak Government, Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).

ICMPC 2025 aims to reinforce Sarawak’s role as a regional hub of scientific and technological excellence, contributing to the state’s ambition of becoming an innovation-driven economy by 2030.

Also present at the event were Professor Vincent Lee Chiang Chen, Pro Vice Chancellor and CEO of Curtin Malaysia; Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak; Professor Sujan Debnath, ICMPC 2025 Chairman; Professor Swadesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chairman; and Dr Fadzliwati Mohiddin from University of Technology Brunei, a key co-organiser.
