BINTULU – The completion of the iconic Jepak Bridge was marked with a momentous occasion as more than 2,300 people gathered to participate in the Jepak Bridge 2025 Run, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of development and community unity.
Organised by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), the run symbolised more than just physical achievement — it demonstrated how infrastructure can foster togetherness, healthy living, and social integration among Sarawakians of diverse backgrounds.
The event was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who highlighted the broader significance of the initiative.
“This is proof that infrastructure is not just about connecting places, but also about connecting people. The Jepak Bridge 2025 Run gives the people a chance to appreciate the government’s development efforts first-hand, while promoting unity and a healthy lifestyle,” he said during the opening ceremony on Sunday.
Participants also had the honour of being among the first to cross the bridge on foot, even before its official opening to vehicular traffic. This added a historical and symbolic touch to the occasion, reinforcing the state’s development goals.
In the 10KM category, Alif Bin Zaini clinched the men’s championship, followed by Zulkarnine Zaidin and Abdul Rahim. In the women’s division, Yunizer Bt Suhaili took the top spot, followed by Amelia Bt Sulee and Ting Sing Chud.
The event concluded with a lucky draw, where Mohd Irfan Bin Japar won a motorcycle, and Evelyn Ugak took home a mini scooter, adding excitement to an already energetic day.
The Jepak Bridge is one of Sarawak’s key infrastructure projects, designed to improve traffic flow, increase accessibility for local communities, and stimulate economic activities around Bintulu.
