Body of Man Found Floating in Batang Tatau River Near Bridge

TATAU – A tragic discovery was made this morning when the body of an adult man was found floating in the Batang Tatau River, caught in a tree branch near the riverbank.

According to the Bintulu Zone Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Chief, Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad, the distress call came in at 10.03am from the Tatau police, requesting assistance to recover a body reportedly spotted by members of the public.

“Upon arriving at the Tatau Bridge, firemen together with police personnel launched an aluminium boat owned by the police force,” he said in an official statement today.

The joint team then travelled approximately four kilometres downstream before locating the body, which was lodged against a tree branch on the riverbank.

After the body was recovered, it was brought back to shore via boat and landed at the Tatau Old Market Jetty. It was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

As of now, the identity of the deceased remains unknown, pending further inquiries and possible post-mortem procedures.

The operation was officially called off at 12.05pm.

This incident has sparked concern among residents, especially those living near the riverbanks, as questions arise over how the man ended up in the river. Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, and investigations are ongoing.

Members of the public who may have information related to the incident are urged to contact the Tatau District Police for assistance in identifying the deceased.
