Troop 9 RS Foils Smuggling Attempt at Limbang Border, RM139k Seized

LIMBANG : A swift response by the Ninth Battalion Troop of the Border Regiment (9 RS) led to the successful seizure of smuggled cigarettes and liquor worth RM139,228.30 in a border operation near Limbang early this morning.

The operation, which took place around 2.00am, was part of a regular patrol by the regiment’s team when they noticed a suspicious vehicle heading toward a jetty close to the international border.

According to a statement from the Intelligence Cell of the 9th Infantry Brigade Headquarters, the team intercepted the vehicle and conducted an inspection.

“Upon checking, the individual in the vehicle failed to present any identification documents. He was believed to be involved in smuggling prohibited items via river routes,” the statement said.

The operation led to the confiscation of 680 cartons of cigarettes of various brands, 16 cartons of liquor, and a vehicle believed to be used in smuggling activities.

The detained individual and the seized goods were handed over to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) for further investigation and appropriate action.

In response, the Malaysian Army (TDM) reaffirmed its strong stance and commitment to tighten border controls and combat cross-border crimes.

Brigadier General Jafri Sulaiman, Commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade, lauded the success of the 9 RS Troop, describing it as a noble effort in maintaining the country’s peace, safety, and sovereignty.

“This operation reflects the dedication of our soldiers in guarding the nation’s borders from threats such as smuggling and illegal crossings,” he said.

The operation further strengthens the Malaysian Army’s reputation as a key frontliner in the fight against illicit activities in high-risk border zones.
