RECODA Highlights Rural Development at Pesta Nukenen Bario 2025

RECODA Highlights Rural Development at Pesta Nukenen Bario 2025

BARIO — The Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), through the Highland Development Agency (HDA), showcased significant rural transformation efforts during Pesta Nukenen Bario 2025, held from 24 to 26 July.

The event celebrated the rich culture, heritage, and resilience of Sarawak’s highland communities, while highlighting major infrastructure projects that are improving connectivity and enhancing livelihoods in northern Sarawak’s interior.

Among the completed initiatives presented were road improvements between Long Banga Junction and Pa’ Dalih (Sections A and B), alongside upgrades to the access road to Long Banga. These projects have dramatically improved travel safety and convenience for residents and visitors to the highland settlements.

Under the COMMUNITY@SCORE programme, HDA has also upgraded tourism facilities at Bukit Korea, adding enhanced toilet amenities, cemented pathways, and a prominent new ‘BARIO’ sign inspired by the iconic Hollywood landmark. This new attraction has become a popular photo spot and aims to boost tourism appeal and economic opportunities in the area.

Updates were also shared on ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of a water treatment and supply system serving Pa’ Ramudu, Pa’ Lungan, Pa’ Mada, Pa’ Dalih, and Batu Patong. Additionally, former logging roads leading to Batu Patong, Pa’ Ramudu, and Pa’ Derong are being upgraded to increase accessibility to these remote villages.

“These infrastructure projects go beyond physical improvements; they are key drivers of socio-economic growth for our highland communities,” said Juan Ubit, Regional Director of HDA. “Our presence at Pesta Nukenen underlines our dedication to inclusive development that honours local culture and empowers rural Sarawakians.”

These initiatives align with the Sarawak Government’s Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which prioritises rural development, enhanced infrastructure connectivity, and equitable growth across the state.
