Tiger Lightning 2025: Bangladesh, US Armies Begin Joint Military Exercise in Sylhet

SYLHET, BANGLADESH — The Bangladesh Army and the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC) have commenced the joint military exercise Tiger Lightning (TL)-2025 at the Para Commando Brigade, Jalalabad Cantonment in Sylhet.

The six-day exercise, which began on Friday, is being jointly organised by the Bangladesh Army and USARPAC. It is jointly supervised by the Para Commando Brigade and the Nevada National Guard, under the framework of ongoing defence cooperation between the two nations.

The opening ceremony was graced by Major General Ascot A. Winter, Deputy Commanding General of USARPAC, who attended as the chief guest. Also in attendance were key officials from the Bangladesh Army, including the Director of the Army Air Defence Directorate, the Director of the Military Training Directorate, and the Commander of the Para Commando Brigade.

A total of 66 personnel from the Nevada National Guard and 100 personnel from the Bangladesh Army’s elite Para Commando Brigade are taking part in the exercise, which will run until July 30.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that Tiger Lightning 2025 is designed to enhance mutual collaboration, improve joint operational capabilities, and strengthen preparedness between the two forces.

This military engagement is part of broader cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States in areas such as regional and global security, counter-terrorism, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance.

Bangladesh remains committed to confronting natural disasters and global security threats in collaboration with international partners, including the United States.

The exercise is expected to sharpen the professional skills of participating troops and deepen defence relations between the two countries, especially in specialised operations and crisis response capabilities.

The continuation of such joint drills underscores the shared strategic priorities and the enduring military partnership between Bangladesh and the United States.
