LIMBANG – A total of RM401,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants was distributed to 40 community organisations during a cheque presentation ceremony held at Bunga Raya Village Hall on Sunday, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to strengthening rural development and infrastructure.
The event, organised by the Limbang People’s Representative Service Centre, was officiated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Limbang, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, who handed over the cheques to representatives of PIBGs, village JKKKs, youth clubs, and local associations.
Datuk Hasbi emphasised the importance of transparent fund management, stating that the grant application and disbursement process has become stricter to ensure it reaches only legitimate and ROS-registered organisations.
“The procedure is not meant to trouble, but to ensure government funds are used transparently and responsibly,” he said.
He encouraged community leaders, particularly village JKKKs, to prepare their proposals early for future grant cycles and to utilise the funds effectively in organising community events, awareness campaigns, upgrading public amenities, and strengthening grassroots unity.
In a significant infrastructure update, Datuk Hasbi also announced the progress of two major road projects:
- The Northern Coastal Highway (NCH), funded by the Sarawak Government, and
- The Trans Borneo Highway Project, funded by the Federal Government.
The Trans Borneo Highway involves the widening of federal roads from CIQS Tedungan to KEMAS Limbang and CIQS Pandaruan, which has already received approval from the Ministry of Economy and is now moving toward implementation.
“The dual carriageway expansion may cause temporary inconvenience to traffic, but I urge the public to be patient for the sake of long-term development,” Hasbi added.
These initiatives are part of the broader state-federal collaboration aimed at improving connectivity and socio-economic opportunities in northern Sarawak.
