Malaysia-Indonesia Talks Boost Cross-Border Trade and Green Energy Growth

JAKARTA – The 13th Annual Malaysia-Indonesia Bilateral Negotiations held at Jakarta’s Istana Merdeka have opened new avenues for enhanced free trade and green energy development in Borneo.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg lauded the discussions between Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, highlighting their positive implications for Sarawak and West Kalimantan.

“Free movement of goods and services between Entikong and Tebedu is now a reality. This is a major step forward in strengthening the trade relationship between the two regions,” he said during a visit to the ASEAN Secretariat on Tuesday.

“This strengthens Sarawak’s foothold in the renewable energy sector,” he said, while welcoming Prime Minister Anwar’s openness to energy cooperation between Sarawak and Singapore.

“I hope we can establish a solid partnership with Singapore, allowing us to expand our green energy exports,” he added.

The Sarawak delegation to Jakarta included several top officials, among them Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Dato Ibrahim Baki, representing both PETROS and Sarawak Energy Berhad.
