KUCHING – The Immigration Enforcement Division of Kuching scored another success in the fight against illegal immigrants after detaining 11 foreign nationals and one local man during Operation Serkap near Penrissen Camp this morning.
The operation, which commenced at around 8.30am, targeted the car park area of Solahuddin Al-Ayubi Mosque following a series of intelligence leads and public complaints about the presence of undocumented foreigners.
In a statement, the Sarawak Malaysian Immigration Department (JIMS) revealed that 11 individuals were screened during the raid. Out of the total, 10 were Indonesian citizens found without valid travel documents.
They are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, including Section 6(1)(c) for entering and staying in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit, and Section 15(1)(c) for overstaying beyond the allowed period.
A 46-year-old local man was also taken into custody for investigation under Section 55E of the same Act, on suspicion of harbouring or allowing illegal immigrants to reside on his premises without authorisation.
All detainees were brought to JIMS for further questioning and documentation.
JIMS called on members of the public to continue providing information on illegal immigration activities. The department stressed that maintaining the nation’s security and sovereignty requires strong cooperation between enforcement agencies and the community.
This operation underscores the government’s firm stance against undocumented migrants and those aiding them, ensuring that Malaysia’s immigration laws are upheld for the safety and order of the country.
