2025 Wushu Championship in Mukah Showcases Rising Sarawak Talent

MUKAH – The 2025 Wushu Taolu and Sanda Open Championship was held on Friday at the Centexs Mukah Hall, serving as a platform to discover and nurture promising athletes capable of competing at higher levels.

The event, which attracted participants from across Sarawak including Bintulu, Sibu, Kanowit, Kuching, Miri, Mukah, Sarikei and Bintangor, was officially launched by Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.

In his speech, Royston described the championship as more than just a sporting contest, highlighting its role in instilling discipline and shaping future representatives of Sarawak at national and international competitions. He also voiced confidence that the event could uncover athletes ready to represent the state in upcoming games such as the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

“The Sarawak Wushu Association is always trying to bring together more athletes from all over the state. This is important to ensure that wushu in Sarawak continues to grow and is able to produce competitive athletes at all levels,” he said.

Royston further reminded participants to apply their martial arts skills responsibly, urging them not to misuse their abilities for harmful purposes such as bullying.

The opening was also attended by several local leaders and sports representatives, including Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip, Sarawak Wushu Association President Allen Wong, Sarikei Wushu Association President Lyde Lait, Mukah Division Resident Office Assistant Administrative Officer Ricky Wong, and Ho Ing Siong, Chairman of the Medan Setia Raja Mukah Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Club.

The championship underscored Sarawak’s continued commitment to developing martial arts and building a pipeline of young talent who could bring pride to the state on larger stages.
