Miri Divisional Quran Recitation Ceremony Opens in Bekenu

MIRI – The Miri Divisional Level Quran Recitation Ceremony 1447H/2025M commenced on Thursday evening at Al-Muttaqin Mosque in Bekenu, drawing participation from qari and qariah representing the districts of Miri, Baram, and Subis.

The programme opened with the youth category, featuring 16 contestants, before moving on to the adult division later in the day, where 10 participants showcased their recitation skills.

In total, 12 finalists will advance to the competition, vying for the titles of champion, runner-up, third place, and consolation awards.

The event, scheduled to conclude on Friday, will culminate in a closing ceremony to be officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Women and Children Development and Bekenu State Assemblywoman, Datuk Rosey Yunus. Winners for both the youth and adult categories will be formally announced at the event.

Thursday’s programme also drew attendance from several local leaders and community representatives, including Miri Division Deputy Resident Bujang Rahman Seli, Subis District Officer Norlila Ulis, and Temenggong Abang Mohamed Dato’ Sri Abang Othman, adding further prestige to the ceremony.

Organisers emphasised that the annual Quran Recitation Ceremony plays a vital role in encouraging greater appreciation and understanding of the Holy Quran among Muslims in Sarawak, while also fostering community unity through shared spiritual engagement.
