The operation, codenamed Operation Perdana, was carried out by nine AADK officers across several locations around Sibu town, beginning at 6.00 pm. The arrests targeted individuals believed to be active in drug-related activities within the district.

According to a statement released by Sibu District AADK on its official Facebook page, a total of 16 suspects, aged between 24 and 49, were taken into custody during the operation. Of those detained, 14 tested positive for drug use following urine screening tests.

Methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, was the most frequently detected drug, with 10 individuals testing positive. Another four individuals were found to have used Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active compound in cannabis.

AADK said the success of this operation reflects its continuous commitment to fight drug abuse and ensure the safety of local communities. “Operations like this are crucial in cleaning up drug hotspots and providing a safe, conducive environment for the people of Sibu,” the agency stressed in its statement.

The agency added that its efforts do not stop at enforcement alone. AADK is also focused on providing rehabilitation and treatment for those who have fallen into drug addiction, in line with the national agenda of Controlled Drugs 2025. This programme aims to curb the spread of drugs and safeguard the well-being of future generations.

AADK further emphasised that operations will continue to be intensified in Sibu and across the nation, with a focus not only on detection and arrests but also on long-term prevention and awareness campaigns.
