Kapit Marks Heroes’ Day 2025 with Tribute to National Veterans

KAPIT — The Kapit Division Heroes’ Day 2025 was observed today at Tugu Bujang Berani, Waterfront Baru Kapit, honouring the sacrifices of Malaysia’s national heroes and reinforcing the importance of patriotism among citizens.

The ceremony, hosted by the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) Kapit Branch, brought together about 250 participants, including 180 veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), alongside families of fallen heroes, widows, community leaders, and local residents.

The event was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Bumiputera Law and Custom) and Bukit Goram assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Also in attendance were Lieutenant General (Rtd) Datuk Stephen Mundaw, Special Duty Officer of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, Kapit Resident Tuan Elvis Didit, and other dignitaries.

In his speech, Datuk Jefferson underscored the significance of Heroes’ Day beyond ceremonial remembrance.

“The peace and development we enjoy today could not have been achieved without the sacrifices of our heroes. It is our responsibility to instill patriotic values in every Malaysian, especially the younger generation,” he said.

He also recalled the bravery of PW II Lengu Cina of Kapit, who fell in battle at Batu Babi, Song, during operations against communist insurgents—highlighting him as an enduring symbol of courage.

As a gesture of appreciation, Datuk Jefferson announced an allocation of RM30,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) to support the management and renovation of Wisma Veteran PVATM Kapit Branch.

The programme concluded with a group photo session involving veterans, widows, and family members, symbolising unity and gratitude for their service.

Heroes’ Day, celebrated annually across Malaysia, serves as a reminder of the sacrifices of past generations while fostering unity and patriotism in the present.

The Kapit edition continues to strengthen communal bonds and inspire younger Malaysians to value peace, security, and national identity.
