RM17,200 Education Incentives Awarded to Top DUN Kakus Students

TATAU – A total of 25 outstanding students from the Kakus State Constituency were recognised for their academic achievements with educational incentives amounting to RM17,200, presented during a ceremony at the Tatau District Office meeting room on Monday.

The event was officiated by Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, and attended by Tatau District Officer Calvin Ligong.

In his speech, Dato Sri John Sikie emphasised that education plays a vital role in raising family and community living standards, encouraging students to continue striving for higher learning opportunities.

He further announced that in addition to the current incentives, DUN Kakus students who advance to the Bachelor’s degree level are entitled to a one-off assistance of RM1,000.

“I advise our children to pursue courses with strong career prospects, particularly in STEM fields,” he said.

Also, present was Selangau Member of Parliament, Edwin Banta, who contributed additional incentives, including RM1,200 for Bachelor’s degree students and RM1,000 for Diploma students.

For the SPM category, students achieving 5As or more received RM100 per subject, while those securing straight As were awarded RM1,000.

Meanwhile, STPM candidates who attained an Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA) of 3.0 and above were also given RM1,000.

In total, 20 SPM students and 5 STPM students from SMK Tatau benefitted from the initiative, which aims to motivate students to maintain academic excellence and pursue higher education.
