LIMBANG – A vibrant celebration of culture and community unfolded at the Kampung Tuna Gumaya Benuas Hall on Monday as the Limbang Kedayan Association hosted its New Year’s Dinner 2025 Thanksgiving and Appreciation Ceremony.
The event attracted over 120 attendees, including community leaders and government representatives.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, officiated the ceremony.
In his address, he emphasized the significance of the New Year’s Dinner as one of the six major cultural festivals featured on the Limbang District’s official calendar, alongside events such as the Babulang Festival, Gawai Dayak, and the Nuba Laya Festival.
Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman highlighted that such cultural gatherings play a crucial role in promoting ethnic heritage and boosting local tourism.
He praised the collaborative efforts between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the community that made the event possible.
The Deputy Minister also provided an update on the construction of the Limbang Kedayan Association Building, which is currently in the tender process.
The facility is expected to be completed by late 2027 and will host the 2028 Kedayan Festival. During the event, a draw was held to select the host for the 2026 Kedayan Festival, with Kampung Nauran announced as the chosen venue.
In attendance were Councilor Sufian Mohat, Chairman of both the Limbang Kedayan Association and the Limbang District Council, alongside Kedayan community leaders from throughout the district.
