The house owner, Mazlan Zakaria, 67, said the incident happened after he heard a loud crashing sound coming from his daughter’s room. Upon inspection, he found part of the ceiling had collapsed. Moments later, another loud noise followed, and this time a python, estimated to be 10 metres long, was seen lying on the bed among the fallen debris.

“Recently, we have heard strange noises on the roof at night. I thought it was rats or maybe a civet cat running around. But this morning, our whole family was shocked when the ceiling gave way, and a very large snake appeared in the room,” Mazlan said when met by Bernama.

He added that his family immediately called 999 for assistance before a team from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) arrived to handle the situation.

His daughter, Wani, 20, said this was not the first time a python had been seen around their house.

“About two years ago, a python appeared in the yard but did not enter the house. This time, it was right inside the bedroom. Luckily, I was not in the room when it fell through the ceiling,” she said.

Kuantan District APM officer Major (PA) Zahidi Zainudin confirmed his team received an emergency call at 11.53am. Ten members and two officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

He said the operation to capture the giant python took around 45 minutes due to its size and length.

“The python has been safely removed and will be handed over to the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) for further action,” Zahidi said.

The shocking discovery has raised concern among villagers in Kampung Kempadang, who fear more snakes could be hiding in nearby areas. – Bernama
