KUCHING – The capital city of Sarawak is set to take centre stage on the global culinary map this coming August, as it prepares to host the prestigious UNESCO Creative Cities Network Annual Conference focused on gastronomy.
The three-day event, scheduled from the fourth to the sixth of August 2026, marks a significant milestone for the region, reinforcing its status as Malaysia’s first designated Creative City of Gastronomy.
Organisers have confirmed that the gathering will bring together a diverse assembly of international delegates, including officials from UNESCO, renowned chefs, and representatives from gastronomy cities across the globe.
The primary objective extends beyond mere diplomatic engagement; attendees are expected to immerse themselves in the local culture, sampling traditional dishes and exploring the rich heritage that underpins Kuching’s culinary reputation.
The announcement was made by Wee Hong Seng, the Mayor of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), who described the occasion as a moment of considerable pride for both the city and the state.
