The initiative, spearheaded by Bintulu Port, aims to preserve and promote Malay heritage while enhancing the tourist experience.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah praised the project for creatively sustaining cultural identity and providing an engaging platform for both locals and international visitors to appreciate traditional poetry.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) Advisor Datu Dr Sabariah Putit at the opening ceremony, the Minister emphasized the corporate sector’s role in safeguarding national heritage.

He noted that such efforts ensure cultural treasures are passed to future generations. The event, held at the English Tea House, also saw Bintulu Port Foundation contribute RM32,000 to local boat operators via its Corporate Social Responsibility program, supporting the community that maintains this living tradition.

The Minister, who also oversees Youth and Sports, expressed hope that this would inspire more inclusive cultural programs.
