Massive Fire Destroys Two Factories in Sibu Early Morning

Massive Fire Destroys Two Factories in Sibu Early Morning

SIBU – Two factories were completely destroyed after a massive fire broke out at Jalan Teng Kui Sui 5 here in the early hours of this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the incident, which involved a timber factory and a second-hand goods factory, was reported at around 2.30am.

According to a spokesperson from the JBPM Operations Centre (PGO), firemen from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were immediately dispatched to the scene, with assistance from BBP Sibu Jaya and BBP Sungai Merah.

“Upon arrival at 2.46am, the fire was found to have engulfed two factories covering an area of approximately 1,065 x 850 square feet. Both buildings were 100 percent destroyed,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

He added that firefighting operations were quickly carried out to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby premises. Crews worked in shifts using several hoses and fire engines to contain the situation.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, and no casualties were reported. The JBPM confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to establish the source of the blaze and to estimate the total losses.

The early morning fire has caused concern among local business owners and nearby residents, who gathered outside the affected area as fire crews battled the flames. Many expressed relief that no lives were lost despite the scale of the destruction.

Authorities are expected to carry out a detailed investigation and assess the safety of surrounding buildings in the coming days.

This is not the first time Sibu has faced factory fire incidents, and residents have urged authorities to strengthen safety awareness and fire prevention measures, especially in industrial areas.
