Kuching Named Host for 23rd WVPAC, Welcoming Global Poultry Experts

Kuching Named Host for 23rd WVPAC, Welcoming Global Poultry Experts

KUCHING – In a boost for Sarawak’s global profile, the 23rd World Veterinary Poultry Association Congress (WVPAC 2025) will be held in Kuching from 6 to 10 October 2025, attracting an estimated 1,500 delegates from around 50 countries.

Hosted at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), the event is expected to enhance the city’s reputation for hosting major international gatherings.

Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Sarawak’s Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, underscores that Kuching’s selection affirms the state’s rising recognition in food industry development and food safety efforts.

He sees the congress as a prime platform to both exchange professional knowledge and elevate Sarawak’s visibility as part of its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030.

The event’s theme, “Sustainable Healthy Poultry for a Healthier World,” will spotlight crucial topics such as disease control, food safety, and food security.

Through partnerships with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Institute of Bioscience, organising bodies aim to ensure academic rigour and innovation in the scientific programme.

Kuching’s BCCK, established in 2009, offers tailored infrastructure for such large-scale congresses featuring exhibition halls, session rooms, and an international standard that aligns with Sarawak’s ambitions to grow its business tourism sector.

To support broader participation, travel grants are available: MYR 2,000 from MyCEB via WVPA Malaysia, and EUR 750 courtesy of the global WVPA, for successful applicants with accepted abstracts.

With its vibrant blend of education, culture, and tourism, Kuching stands poised to host an intellectually rewarding and visually enriching congress.

WVPAC 2025 promises not only scientific exchange, but also opportunities to showcase Sarawak’s rich heritage and its strategic advances in the livestock and food safety sectors.
