Dayang Norjihan Appointed SARORSO Patron, Upholding Orchid Legacy

KUCHING – Yang Berbahagia Puan Dayang Norjihan binti Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari has been officially appointed as the Patron of the Sarawak Orchid Society (SARORSO), continuing the legacy of her late mother, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

The appointment ceremony was held at Sri Pertiwi, Kuching, during a courtesy visit by SARORSO’s leadership team, led by its Chairman, Tengku Dr Auvaroza Tengku Abraham. The delegation also included members of the Cooperative Board who took the opportunity to share the association’s vision and mission with Puan Dayang Norjihan.

The late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Hajjah Juma’ani was a strong supporter of orchid cultivation and conservation in Sarawak. With Puan Dayang Norjihan now taking up the role of Patron, SARORSO believes the society will continue to grow in both reach and influence, particularly in promoting Sarawak’s orchids as a unique heritage of the state.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the potential of Sarawak orchids not only as ornamental plants but also in wider industries. This includes research and development in nurseries, export opportunities, and the creation of downstream products such as cosmetics, teas, and even food-related innovations.

SARORSO also highlighted its community-based initiatives, including an ongoing project with residents in Kota Samarahan. The project focuses on developing orchid-based products that could create economic opportunities while promoting environmental sustainability.

Among those present at the event were Hajah Saptyuah binti Hj Baki, Hajah Norliza binti Sa’di, and Zurenawatte binti Zaidil, alongside other SARORSO leadership members.

Puan Dayang Norjihan’s appointment marks a significant step in ensuring Sarawak’s orchid heritage remains preserved while opening doors for innovative uses and global recognition.
