MIRI – The Miri Port Authority (MPA) has been awarded the MS ISO 37001:2025 Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) certification by SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd., marking a significant milestone in its commitment to ethical governance and operational transparency.
The certification, presented during the Integrity, Customer, and HSE Day 2025 ceremony at the Imperial Hotel here on Thursday, aligns with the Sarawak government’s efforts to enhance the port sector’s competitiveness and reliability.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (Port Development) Dato Majang Renggi emphasized that the achievement reflects MPA’s dedication to integrity-based practices, which will bolster confidence among customers and investors.
“This step will not only increase customer and investor confidence but is also in line with the state government’s efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s position as an efficient and credible logistics and shipping hub,” he stated, representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the event.
Datuk Ian Brian James, Ports Advisor to the Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, highlighted the broader implications of the certification, noting that it symbolizes a commitment to transparency and accountability.
“Today is not just about receiving a certificate. It is a celebration of the values of integrity, accountability, and good governance,” he remarked during his opening address.
The event also served as a platform to discuss MPA’s ongoing initiatives, including the Kuala Baram dredging project, aimed at deepening the port’s access channel to accommodate larger vessels and boost economic activities such as shipbuilding, oil and gas operations, and tourism.
This project, valued at RM208.9 million, is expected to be completed by March 2027 and will position Miri as a future deep-sea port capable of handling diverse cargo types .
MPA’s achievement builds on its previous recognitions, including consecutive Premier of Sarawak Environmental Awards (PSEA) in 2021/2022 and 2023/2024, underscoring its holistic approach to sustainability and operational excellence.
The authority also holds certifications for Quality Management (MS ISO 9001:2015), Environmental Management (MS ISO 14001:2015), and Occupational Health and Safety (MS ISO 45001:2018).
The certification handover was attended by key figures, including SIRIM Sarawak State Director Tuan Sharizan Mohamad Sahmoni and MPA General Manager Mdm Serawa ak Budol, alongside industry stakeholders and community representatives.
