Lorry Driver Slightly Injured in Self-Crash on Jalan Tanjung Genting

BINTANGOR: A lorry driver sustained minor injuries after being involved in a self-inflicted accident on Jalan Tanjung Genting this morning.

According to a spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), the incident was reported at approximately 8.51am. The Emergency Operations Team (PKO) promptly rushed to the scene to assess the situation.

“Upon arrival, we were informed that an adult male had suffered minor injuries due to a self-inflicted accident,” the spokesman said. “Members of the public had already assisted in removing the victim before our team reached the location.”

The injured driver was immediately transported to the hospital by a Ministry of Health (MOH) ambulance for further medical attention. The spokesman confirmed that no active rescue operations were necessary, as the injuries were not life-threatening.

“PKO only carried out monitoring of the scene and assisted with post-accident cleanup,” he added. The area was cleared to ensure safety for other road users.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the lorry, loaded with oil palm, appeared to have lost control before colliding with the roadside, although exact details of the accident are still under investigation. Authorities urged drivers to remain vigilant, especially on rural roads where heavy vehicles are frequently in operation.

While the incident caused minor traffic disruptions, normal flow resumed shortly after the accident site was cleared. This serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and careful driving, particularly for large commercial vehicles.

Local authorities continue to advise motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive cautiously to prevent similar accidents.
