KUCHING – Alexis DanceSport Studio has emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 2025 Sabah DanceSport Championship after securing nine championship titles, alongside several runner-up and finalist placings.
The studio, which has been a strong name in DanceSport since its establishment in 2009, was led by its principal and co-owner, Dr. Victor Bong. He also serves as Vice President of the Sarawak DanceSport Association and has been actively involved in promoting the growth of DanceSport at both state and national levels. Supporting him at the competition were National Adjudicator A, Alexis Jap, and Ms. Ker Sing, who also adjudicated during the event.
Among the notable results, Amber Tan Ling Xin stood out with three individual titles, while the pair of Vincent Bong Jun Tong and Voon Sin Yee captured two championship victories. Other winners included Ooi Shee Le, Bernice Cham Wan Xuan, Ren Xuanyi, and Angus Tan Yan Hong, who each contributed to the overall success of the team. In total, the studio collected nine championships, five first runner-up positions, three second runner-up spots and numerous finalist placings across different categories.
The achievements in Sabah have further strengthened the studio’s reputation as a breeding ground for young talent. Dr. Bong confirmed that Alexis DanceSport Studio will be sending 50 participants to compete in the Sarawak Open International DanceSport Championship on September 20, an event expected to draw strong competition from international and local athletes.
Founded by Ms. Alexis, who is an ISTD Licentiate in both Latin American and Modern Ballroom, the studio offers lessons ranging from Samba, Cha Cha and Rumba to Waltz, Tango and Quickstep. Ms. Alexis, a former national DanceSport athlete with international experience, continues to play a key role in developing competitive athletes for Sarawak. Alongside her, Ms. Ker Sing has been instrumental in grassroots programmes, particularly in primary schools around Kuching, producing promising young dancers.
Alexis DanceSport Studio does not only prepare athletes for championships but also provides training for stage performances, weddings, social events, and examinations under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). Over the years, the studio has grown into one of Sarawak’s most established centres for DanceSport, combining professional coaching with opportunities for dancers to excel both recreationally and competitively.
With its recent victory in Sabah and its upcoming participation in the Sarawak Open International DanceSport Championship, Alexis DanceSport Studio continues to demonstrate its commitment to raising the standard of DanceSport in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.
