MPP Advances Poor People’s House Repair Program to Improve Living Conditions

KUCHING – The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) continues its efforts to improve housing for low-income residents through the Poor People’s House Repair Program, an initiative introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in 2016.

This programme, part of the Urban Poverty Eradication Program (PPKB), aims to enhance the safety and comfort of homes by repairing deteriorated structures, contributing to overall community well-being. The initiative aligns with the objectives of the 10th and 11th Malaysia Plans (RMK-10 and RMK-11) and supports the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG 2030).

Since 2016, MPP has successfully repaired 274 houses under this programme. Initially, each home received an allocation of RM15,000, which was increased to RM20,000 in 2024 to account for rising costs.

Repairs typically cover essential aspects of the house, including roofs, ceilings, walls, floors, windows, doors, stairs, and basic facilities such as toilets.

For 2025, MPP has already completed the renovation of 37 houses in Phase 1, continuing the council’s commitment to improving living standards for the urban poor in the Padawan area.
