Seven Men Arrested in AADK Sibu Anti-Drug Operation

SIBU – A total of seven individuals were arrested during a two-day Special Prevention Operation carried out by the Sibu District National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) between 23 and 24 September 2025.

The operation, which involved seven AADK officers, focused on several areas around Sibu town that had been identified as hotspots for drug-related activities. According to AADK, the mission was part of ongoing proactive efforts to detect and detain individuals involved in drug abuse while ensuring they are provided access to treatment and rehabilitation.

The initiative is in line with the recently approved Drug and Substance Addicts and Abusers (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which emphasises recovery through either community-based or institutional programmes.

AADK Sibu said the operation also aimed to break the chain of supply and demand for illicit drugs in targeted areas. This step is seen as crucial in curbing the rising influence of synthetic drugs, particularly methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.

Of the seven men detained, four tested positive for methamphetamine during initial screenings. They are aged between 19 and 50 years old. All detainees are currently under investigation and could face further action under existing drug control laws.

AADK further stressed that enforcement operations will continue to be intensified as part of the national “Controlled Drugs 2025” target, which seeks to reduce the presence of dangerous substances in communities across Malaysia.

“The fight against drugs requires consistent effort and cooperation from all levels of society. AADK remains committed to protecting the community by tackling drug addiction and providing avenues for recovery,” the agency stated.
