BINTANGOR – Police in Meradong District successfully arrested five men believed to be involved in a string of housebreaking cases around Sungai Bian, following a series of raids carried out on September 25 and 26.
Meradong District Police Chief (KPD), DSP Tansli Mering, confirmed the arrests and said the swift action was the result of a targeted operation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD). The arrests were made after police received a report regarding a recent break-in incident.
“Investigations led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of several stolen items. This marks a breakthrough in solving the housebreaking cases that have worried residents in the Sungai Bian area,” he said in a media statement today.
DSP Tansli added that urine tests were conducted on all suspects and results showed they were positive for drug use.
“All five suspects are now under investigation under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking. If convicted, they face up to 14 years in prison and may also be fined. With these arrests, police consider the case solved,” he explained.
He further urged the public to remain alert and take extra precautions in safeguarding their homes, especially when leaving for long holidays.
“Housebreaking cases can happen quickly when security measures are ignored. We advise residents to lock their homes properly, install security systems if possible, and inform neighbours or local community leaders when leaving home for extended periods,” he said.
Police also reminded the public not to hesitate in reporting suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods to ensure quick police response and community safety.
The arrests have provided relief to Sungai Bian residents, many of whom had expressed concern over rising cases of housebreaking in recent months. – IPD Meradong
