Gedong Flood Victims Receive RM1,000 Government Aid

GEDONG – A total of 23 heads of households affected by January’s floods have received RM1,000 each in Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) from the government.

The aid was distributed at a ceremony held at the Gedong Community Hall, officiated by the Special Representative of the Gedong Assemblyman, Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais.

Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais emphasised that while floods cannot be entirely prevented, proactive measures are crucial.

He advised residents to construct their homes at least three feet higher than the original ground level to mitigate future property damage.

He clarified that the financial assistance is not a compensation but a sincere contribution from the government to ease the burden on victims and support their recovery.

The BWI initiative is a standard form of compassion cash aid provided by the government to those affected by natural disasters like floods.

This aid is intended to help citizens with basic post-disaster needs and recovery. Eligibility for the assistance must be confirmed by the District Officer, and each affected household is eligible for only one claim, regardless of the number of residents.

Applications for BWI are typically processed through local authorities. For individuals relocated to temporary relief centres, registration is done with the Welfare Department (JKM).

Those who did not move to a centre can submit applications through the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), community leaders, or the District Office.

Also present at the ceremony were Pemanca Melayu Zon Gedong Proper Abang Ronnie Abang Sa’adeli and Penghulu Melayu Zon Gedong Proper Adian Salleh.
