KUALA LUMPUR — His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today emphasised that the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) is a true humanitarian mission, aimed at helping those in dire need including the elderly, women and children.
In a statement issued by the Royal Press Office, His Majesty described the involvement of volunteers, including Malaysians, in the GSF as a noble act that carries immense risks but reflects the spirit of universal brotherhood without boundaries.
“Their mission was only to deliver food supplies, yet they were stopped and detained. This act is clearly against universal humanitarian values,” His Majesty said.
Sultan Ibrahim added that the determination of GSF volunteers to carry the humanitarian message onto the international stage should be seen as a symbol of courage and compassion. He stressed that their sacrifices must not be overlooked, as they embody the values of humanity beyond race, religion or borders.
“Today, I received the latest briefing on the developments of the GSF, including Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to secure the release of our volunteers. May every noble effort being carried out by the government to help our people’s volunteers be eased and protected by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala,” His Majesty said.
Earlier, His Majesty granted an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was also attended by Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.
The Global Sumud Flotilla mission has attracted international attention, with hundreds of participants from various countries taking part to highlight the plight of oppressed communities and deliver essential aid. The incident involving the detention of volunteers has raised concerns among humanitarian organisations worldwide.
Malaysia has pledged to continue diplomatic efforts in ensuring the safety and release of its citizens involved, while reiterating its stand in supporting international humanitarian principles.
