Kampung Stenggang Football Field to Undergo RM100,000 Upgrade

Kampung Stenggang Football Field to Undergo RM100,000 Upgrade

BAU – The Kampung Stenggang Football Field will soon be upgraded to provide improved sports amenities for local residents, following a formal site handover ceremony held on Wednesday.

The ceremony was officiated by Billy Sujang, the Opar State Assemblyman, with the Bau District Public Works Department (JKR) designated as the implementing agency.

The project carries an estimated cost of RM100,000 and includes key works such as enlarging the field to standard dimensions, upgrading the pavilion, and rewiring works for improved safety and convenience.

In his address, Billy Sujang underscored that rural sports facilities are vital not only for health and recreation, but also for fostering community cohesion and youth engagement.

“A facility like this is not just for playing sports, but is a place for social interaction, strengthening friendships and fostering the spirit of sportsmanship among youth and local residents,” he remarked.

He further encouraged the community to take ownership of the facility’s upkeep to ensure long-term utility.

Following the handover, JKR officials visited the project site with local leaders to discuss execution and ensure that the upgrade aligns with the community’s needs.

This upgrade forms part of broader efforts in Sarawak to enhance sports infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.

The state has in recent years committed substantial investment in upgrading and constructing sports complexes under programmes such as Projek Rakyat, with allocations totalling over RM186 million for facilities development across the state.

In the Bau area specifically, the Bau Sports Arena has been nearing completion, with its first phase now 94 per cent finished. These parallel developments reflect the state’s push to improve access to quality sports venues beyond urban centres.
