Four Men Nabbed Over Telekom Malaysia Cable Theft in Miri

MIRI: Police have arrested four local men believed to be involved in the theft of cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia (TM) in Jalan Setia Raja here yesterday morning.

Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the incident was reported by a TM technician around 11.00am on October 17, after the company discovered missing cables at the site.

“Following the report and swift police action, all four suspects, aged between 31 and 36, were successfully arrested on the same day,” he said in a statement issued today.

Mohd Farhan added that police seized several items believed to have been used in the crime, including TM cables, ‘chain pulleys’, cable-cutting tools, and a vehicle belonging to one of the suspects.

Urine tests conducted on all four men showed positive results for drug use.

“The suspects have been remanded at the Miri Court to assist further investigations,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Mohd Farhan also urged members of the public with relevant information about the case to come forward.

He expressed appreciation to the community for their continuous cooperation and vigilance in reporting suspicious activities.

Cable theft cases have become a growing concern in several parts of Sarawak, leading to service disruptions and financial losses for telecommunications companies.
