State Officials Assess Rural Needs in Bario

BARIO – A high-level working visit to the settlement of Long Balau has been conducted to reinforce the government’s dedication to rural advancement.

The trip allowed officials to directly evaluate essential services and living conditions in the interior region.

Led by Datuk Gerawat Gala, the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), the delegation assessed critical infrastructure.

The inspection covered the current state of road networks, water and electricity supplies, and telecommunications connectivity. Education and healthcare facilities were also reviewed to gauge community wellbeing.

Datuk Gerawat, who is also the Mulu State Assemblyman, emphasised that the needs of rural populations remain a primary government concern.

He stated that the administration is focused on ensuring these communities are integrated into the state’s broader development and not marginalised.

He stressed that this goal requires a coordinated effort. The commitment involves close cooperation between implementing agencies, local leaders, and grassroots communities to guarantee that every area receives comprehensive developmental benefits.

The Deputy Minister also acknowledged the vital part played by local governance structures. He expressed appreciation for community leaders, tribal leaders, and members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

These figures act as a crucial link for communication and implementation between the government and the people.

This engagement is seen as a reflection of the state government’s ongoing commitment to nurturing relationships with rural residents.

The initiative aims to ensure that development is balanced and reaches all corners of Sarawak, addressing disparities between urban and rural areas.
