SRI AMAN — A five-foot python that caused alarm among villagers in Jalan Pasir Panas was successfully captured by the Civil Defence Force (APM) Sri Aman after it was found inside a duck coop.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning when a local resident, identified as Mr. Lee, discovered the reptile resting sluggishly inside his duck cage. According to him, he had gone to feed his ducks as usual but was shocked to see a large snake coiled in the corner of the coop.
Realising the danger, Mr. Lee immediately contacted the APM Sri Aman office to request assistance. The operation team responded swiftly and arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Upon inspection, they found that the python had already swallowed one of the ducks whole, making it too heavy to move quickly.
“The snake, estimated to be about five feet long, was safely captured using standard catching tools and placed into a secure container before being relocated to a safe area away from human settlement,” said an APM spokesperson.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but the APM reminded the public to remain alert, especially during the current rainy season, when snakes often leave their natural habitats in search of food and shelter.
Residents are also advised not to attempt to handle or kill snakes on their own but to contact the relevant authorities immediately for safe removal.
This incident once again highlights the importance of quick community response and the efficiency of local rescue teams in managing wildlife intrusions.
