MIRI – A major infrastructure project to reconstruct and upgrade the facilities at SK Sayed Othman is progressing, with officials confirming a scheduled completion date of May 2026. The significant initiative carries a total price tag of RM7.4 million.
Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, the Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, who is also the Piasau State Assemblyman, provided the update during a site inspection this Wednesday.
He reported that construction work commenced on the *7th of May 2025* and has already achieved approximately 30 percent completion.
He expressed his anticipation for the project’s conclusion, stating his hope that all pupils would be able to return to their school to enjoy the modernised and enhanced learning environment.
The deputy minister emphasised the critical importance of the project in delivering more comfortable and secure educational facilities for both students and staff at the primary school.
The upgrade is part of broader, ongoing efforts across Sarawak to address and improve the condition of school infrastructure.
Such investments are considered fundamental to raising educational standards and providing a conducive atmosphere for learning. The visit allowed for a first-hand assessment of the work being carried out on the ground.
The delegation present during the working visit included key figures involved in the project’s oversight and execution.
Among them were Miri Public Works Department (JKR) Site Engineer Rabiatul Adawiyah Mahari and the Acting Deputy District Education Officer for the Planning Sector, Awang Ali Awang Ahmad.
Also in attendance were local Councillors Tan Lek Jin and Kelvin Chia, alongside committee members from the Piasau SUPP branch.
The presence of these officials underscores the collaborative nature of the project, involving local government, education authorities, and community political representatives.
Projects of this scale are vital for communities in Miri, ensuring that public education facilities keep pace with modern requirements and safety standards.
The allocation of substantial funding demonstrates the state’s commitment to long-term investment in human capital, beginning with the foundational years of schooling.
