BINTANGOR – The Meradong Festival 2025 has once again highlighted the district’s agricultural strengths, serving not only as a celebration of local produce but also as a platform to enhance the competitiveness of farmers.
A key feature of the festival was the Fruit Competition, organised by the Meradong Agriculture Department, which provided farmers with the opportunity to showcase high-quality produce and strengthen the value chain of the local fruit industry.
Meradong State Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the initiative enlivens the annual festival while supporting farmers in their efforts to improve standards and market reach.
“I hope that farmers will continue to improve modern agricultural practices so that local fruits remain high-quality and competitive,” he remarked during the event at the Meradong District Agriculture Office on Wednesday.
He added that such programmes help expand market opportunities, promote local fruits, and increase the income of farming communities in the district.
This year’s competition featured four categories: Bintangor lime, honey lime, Bali lime, and pineapple (anas). Entries were judged on size, shape, colour, flavour, and overall quality, ensuring that farmers continue to raise standards in fruit production.
Beyond the competition, the festival also included exhibitions of agricultural produce, sales of local products, and active participation from the community.
These activities created a lively atmosphere and reinforced the festival’s role as a driver of agro-community development.
The Meradong Agriculture Department reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector through initiatives that recognise farmers’ contributions, promote local products, and support the rural economy.
By combining cultural celebration with agricultural innovation, the Meradong Festival continues to play a vital role in boosting competitiveness and sustaining the livelihoods of farmers in the district.
