ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended a State Dinner hosted by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali at Istana Negara, marking another milestone in the strengthening of Malaysia-Ethiopia relations.
In his address, Anwar stressed that the partnership between the two nations transcends ordinary diplomacy, encompassing not only trade and investment but also technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and humanitarian concerns.
He highlighted the ongoing crises in Gaza and Sudan, underscoring the importance of solidarity and shared responsibility in addressing global injustices.
Anwar also drew attention to the long-standing historical ties between Malaysia and Ethiopia, recalling the legacy of King Najashi, who offered protection to early Muslim migrants.
He noted that this history serves as a reminder of humanity and compassion, values that should guide modern diplomacy rather than division.
The Prime Minister emphasised Malaysia’s MADANI framework, which balances material progress with moral and social values.
He praised Ethiopia’s Medemer philosophy, championed by Dr Abiy, as an inclusive approach to reform that harnesses collective strength for national progress.
Expressing his appreciation, Anwar commended Dr Abiy for his commitment to fostering friendship, recalling the Ethiopian leader’s visit to Kuala Lumpur last year.
In a lighter moment, Anwar joked about being taken on extensive museum tours by Dr Abiy, reflecting the warmth and personal rapport between the two leaders.
The State Dinner capped a series of high-level engagements during Anwar’s visit, which included the signing of multiple cooperation agreements and discussions on expanding bilateral ties.
Both leaders reaffirmed their determination to strengthen relations across all dimensions, ensuring that cooperation delivers tangible benefits for their people.
Anwar concluded by expressing hope that Malaysia–Ethiopia relations will continue to flourish, grounded in close friendship, mutual progress, and universal human values.
