ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy visit from the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia, led by its President, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, during his official trip to Addis Ababa.
The meeting provided a meaningful platform to exchange views on strengthening the development of the ummah and addressing contemporary challenges facing Muslim communities.
Discussions centred on tackling the phenomenon of Islamophobia with wisdom and gentleness, guided by values of compassion, humanity, and empathy.
Anwar expressed admiration for Ethiopia’s atmosphere of harmony among Islam, Christianity, and other religions, describing it as a legacy that reflects the maturity and wisdom of Ethiopian society in managing diversity peacefully.
Malaysia, he emphasised, consistently upholds the dignity of Islam as a religion that promotes prosperity and tolerance. This is achieved through education, prudent da’wah, dialogue between civilisations, and close cooperation with Islamic institutions abroad.
The Prime Minister noted that Malaysia’s engagement with Ethiopia’s Islamic community is part of a broader effort to foster understanding and solidarity across faiths.
As a gesture of brotherhood, Anwar presented a donation to the local Islamic community. This included a special edition copy of the Quran with a rehal, along with four boxes of Qurans translated into English and with tajwid, symbolising Malaysia’s commitment to spreading knowledge and strengthening ties through shared values.
The meeting underscored the importance of interfaith dialogue and cooperation in promoting peace and resilience in diverse societies.
It also reinforced Malaysia’s role in supporting Ethiopia’s religious institutions and contributing to a global narrative of tolerance and unity.
