KUCHING: Kuching City FC (KCFC) earned a hard-fought and meaningful victory after edging DPMM FC 1-0 in their Malaysia Super League clash at the State Stadium, Petra Jaya, on Saturday night. The win gave KCFC three crucial points and restored confidence among home supporters who came in strong numbers despite the uncertain weather.
The match opened with an early scare for the hosts when DPMM FC’s Jordan David found the net in the 10th minute. The visitors celebrated what looked like a well-worked move, but the moment quickly fizzled out after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review confirmed that the forward was offside. The decision saved KCFC from conceding an early blow and allowed them to regroup.
More than 3,000 fans filled the stands, yet KCFC struggled to find their rhythm in the first half. The slippery condition of the pitch—caused by heavy rain earlier in the day—disrupted their ball control and passing. This opened opportunities for DPMM FC, who pressed aggressively and created several dangerous moments. Still, both teams failed to break the deadlock, and the first half ended without a goal.
The second half saw a noticeable shift in tempo as both sides launched quicker counterattacks and played with greater urgency. KCFC began pushing forward with more purpose, trying to capitalise on their home advantage.
Their perseverance finally paid off in the 69th minute. A well-timed pass from Scott Philip Galang Woods found Muhammad Ramadhan, who finished calmly to give KCFC the lead. The crowd erupted, sensing that this might be the turning point the team needed.
Tension escalated deep into injury time when DPMM FC believed they had equalised through Prosper Boakye. But once again, VAR played a crucial role. After a review, the goal was ruled out, bringing relief to KCFC players and fans alike.
The match concluded with a 1-0 win for The City Boys, thanks to Ramadhan’s decisive strike that ultimately safeguarded KCFC’s dignity and secured a valuable three points in their campaign.
