NAIROBI – Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded a full ceremonial welcome at the State House of the Republic of Kenya, underscoring the enduring friendship between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1965.
The official reception included an inspection of the guard of honour and a 19-gun salute, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations and mutual respect shared by both countries.
The event highlighted the significance of Malaysia’s engagement with Kenya as the two nations celebrate six decades of cooperation.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Anwar and President Dr William Samoei Ruto convened a four-point meeting to review the trajectory of Malaysia–Kenya relations.
Discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in trade, investment, technology, and infrastructure, while also exploring new opportunities for cooperation in education, tourism, and sustainable development.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing people-centred diplomacy, ensuring that future agreements directly benefit citizens.
President Ruto emphasised the importance of Malaysia’s support in areas such as youth training and digital innovation, while Prime Minister Anwar highlighted Kenya’s growing role as a regional hub for agriculture and technology.
The visit forms part of Malaysia’s broader MADANI Diplomacy mission, which seeks to expand partnerships across Africa and Asia.
Both governments expressed optimism that the renewed focus on strategic cooperation will pave the way for shared prosperity and closer ties between their peoples.
