KUCHING — On 25 November 2025 The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has intensified its enforcement efforts with a Daily/Special Operation targeting commercial vehicles across major routes in Kuching. The operation, led by the Kuching Operations Team, aims to ensure strict compliance with transport regulations and strengthen overall road safety in the state.
According to JPJ Sarawak, the operation focuses on monitoring, patrol enforcement, and immediate action against vehicles found breaking the rules. Officers have been stationed along several key roads within Kuching City, where heavy commercial activity and frequent goods transportation take place.
During the operation, 110 commercial vehicles were inspected. JPJ reported detecting multiple violations, including drivers operating without a valid driving licence, drivers without the required vocational licence, and operators failing to comply with LPKP permit conditions. Several technical offences were also identified, ranging from vehicle modifications to poor maintenance standards.
One commercial vehicle was seized after officers discovered it had been operating with an expired road tax and without valid insurance coverage — a serious offence that poses significant risk to both the driver and other road users.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that such enforcement efforts will continue on a routine basis. Alongside action taken on offenders, the department will also strengthen its educational approach to ensure operators understand their responsibilities under Malaysian road laws.
The department reminded commercial vehicle owners that road safety is not optional. It is a shared duty that requires every operator to play their part. JPJ stressed that compliance with licence requirements, permits, and vehicle maintenance is essential not only to protect their businesses but also to safeguard the public.
JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed that the safety and wellbeing of all road users remain its top priority. The department urged commercial vehicle operators to stay updated with regulations, maintain their fleets responsibly, and support efforts to make Sarawak’s roads safer for everyone.
