Bintulu Port CSR Aids 314 Students Across Six Secondary Schools

BINTULU – More than 300 students from six secondary schools in Bintulu have received school equipment assistance under the Bintulu Port Prihatin Back to School 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme.

The initiative, held at the Wisma Kontena Foyer on Thursday, provided 314 students with school bags, uniforms, and stationery to help them prepare for the upcoming academic year. The schools involved were SMK Baru (50 students), SMK Kemena (50), SMK Asyakirin (64), SMK Bandar (50), SMK Kidurong (50), and SMK Bintulu (50).

Group Chief Executive Officer of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB), Dato’ Ruslan Abdul Ghani, said the programme is designed to ease the financial burden of low-income families while giving students the confidence to begin the 2026 school session better equipped.

“At the same time, it strengthens Bintulu Port’s relationship with the local community through the implementation of high-impact CSR programmes.

This effort is also in line with the aspirations of the Malaysian Education System which emphasises access to quality education, fair opportunities for all, and the development of balanced and holistic individuals,” he said in a speech delivered by Maslihah Tioh, BPHB’s General Manager of Group Stakeholder Relations.

Dato’ Ruslan added that every student who benefits from the programme represents the future of the nation, and therefore, efforts to provide basic educational needs must continue to be reinforced to ensure no child is left behind.

BPHB expressed appreciation to the Bintulu District Education Office, teachers, and the implementing committee for their role in ensuring the success of the programme.

The Back to School initiative is an annual CSR effort by Bintulu Port, aimed at strengthening community ties and supporting local educational development.

Observers note that such initiatives reflect the growing importance of corporate social responsibility in Sarawak, where companies are increasingly contributing to social welfare and education.

By focusing on students from low-income families, the programme not only supports academic readiness but also promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities in line with national education goals.

With continued support from BPHB, the Back to School programme is expected to remain a cornerstone of community engagement in Bintulu, helping students achieve their potential while reinforcing the port’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
