KUCHING — The Sarawak DanceSport scene took another confident step forward as the SSC–SDA Latin Training Camp 2025 wrapped up successfully after three days of intensive coaching, fitness work, and athlete development sessions. Held from 5 to 7 December, the programme brought together rising DanceSport talents from Sarawak and Sabah, combining technical mastery with modern training approaches to prepare them for tougher international competition seasons ahead.
A total of 23 athletes — 20 from Sarawak and three from Sabah — completed the camp. They underwent detailed group and individual training sessions led by renowned Korean DanceSport coach, Mr. Nam Gi Yong, who made his first-ever visit to Kuching for this programme. His guidance focused on polishing competition techniques, boosting confidence, and helping dancers understand the fine adjustments that make the difference at elite levels.
Beyond the core Latin DanceSport sessions, participants also followed a full schedule aimed at shaping them into well-rounded competitors. Daily K-pop classes conducted by Shanx, fitness lessons by Deborah Lee, and body conditioning screenings provided by Chiropractic & Joint Specialists Tag Kuching ensured the dancers were exposed to multiple aspects of athletic performance.
SDA Organizing Secretary Cindy Chung explained that the added components were designed to help athletes keep up with the increasingly demanding competition calendar. She stressed that fitness, mobility, and mental readiness now play a bigger role than ever in ensuring long-term success on the international stage.
SDA President Chester Lim said the training camp is part of the association’s ongoing athlete development plan. He expressed confidence that the participants benefited significantly from the programme, especially after receiving encouraging feedback from Mr. Nam. Chester, however, reminded dancers that consistent practice remains the key to staying competitive, urging them to apply the techniques learned and strengthen their preparations for the 2026 season.
He also highlighted the importance of continued backing from the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS). According to him, such support is vital in advancing the long-term growth of DanceSport in Sarawak and in reinforcing the state’s ambition to become Malaysia’s leading sports state.
With the camp ending on a positive note, Sarawak’s DanceSport community now looks ahead with renewed energy and higher expectations for the coming competitive year.
