Opar Rural Infrastructure Boosted by New GKCDA Development Projects

LUNDU – Rural communities in the Opar constituency are set to benefit from improved infrastructure following the launch of two new development projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

The handover ceremonies, held in Kampung Pasir Hulu and Kampung Judin, were officiated by Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang, who highlighted the Sarawak Government’s commitment to accelerating rural development and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

One of the projects involves the Phase 2 upgrading of the Kampung Pasir Hulu Road to Rantau Panjang, with an allocation of RM688,000. The initiative aims to improve road connectivity, ensuring safer and more convenient travel for villagers, particularly in transporting agricultural produce and supporting daily mobility.

The second project focuses on upgrading the Kampung Judin Multi-Purpose Hall, valued at RM250,000. The hall is expected to provide a more functional and conducive space for community activities, social programmes and local development initiatives, strengthening the role of communal facilities in rural life.

In addition, the programme also announced the upgrading of Rumah Ranto, with an allocation of RM300,000. This project will further enhance public facilities, supporting the overall well-being of residents in the Opar area.

Billy Sujang noted that these projects reflect the government’s broader strategy to ensure rural communities are not left behind in development. He emphasised that infrastructure improvements are crucial for economic growth, social cohesion and the empowerment of rural populations.

The GKCDA has been actively implementing projects across Greater Kuching and surrounding constituencies, focusing on road upgrades, community halls, and public facilities. These initiatives are part of Sarawak’s long-term vision to modernise rural areas, bridge development gaps and provide equitable opportunities for all communities.

Residents in Opar welcomed the announcements, expressing hope that the upgraded facilities would improve accessibility, foster community engagement and create new opportunities for local development.
