DEBAK – The Saribas Excellence Awards Ceremony 2025 (AKSARi) at SMK Saribas has reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to education as a cornerstone of human capital development.
The event, held at Dewan Akademia on Friday, was officiated by Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development and Saribas Assemblyman.
He emphasised that the ceremony recognised not only students who excelled academically and in co-curricular activities, but also the parents and teachers who have been instrumental in nurturing their success.
“This recognition is not only for the students, but also for parents and teachers of SMK Saribas, who are the backbone of our children’s success today,” he said, congratulating award recipients and urging them to build on their achievements for future success.
Datuk Mohamad Razi reiterated the Sarawak Government’s strong focus on education, noting that the Premier of Sarawak has approved funding to upgrade and develop schools across the state.
He announced that beginning in 2026, Sarawakian students will benefit from free tertiary education at state-owned universities, supported by allowances and initiatives designed to ease financial burdens.
He stressed that the government is committed to modernising the education system through digitalisation, improved infrastructure, inclusive access, and the cultivation of leadership and values aligned with Sarawak’s cultural identity.
“The state government is committed to ensuring that the education system continues to progress in line with modern needs,” he added.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the importance of community involvement, urging parents and local stakeholders to act as strategic partners in enhancing student performance and overall excellence.
Meanwhile, SMK Saribas principal Nur Liana Lim Abdullah called on parents, alumni, and the wider community to continue supporting the school’s mission to sustain excellence and achieve its long-term goals.
The ceremony was attended by key education and community figures, including Nelson Peter, SISC+ Language Officer representing the Betong District Education Officer; Abang Akim Abang Ahmad Amzah, president of the SMK Saribas Parents and Teachers Association; Mohammad Khairurani Mohammad Ibrahim, Debak Sub-District Administrative Officer; and Piee Alwi, Temenggung of Betong Division.
AKSARi 2025 not only celebrated student achievements but also reinforced Sarawak’s broader vision of education as a driver of progress, inclusivity, and sustainable development.
