Sarawak Premier Concludes China Visit with Focus on Economic Collaboration

SHANGHAI – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, has concluded his working visit to China, marking the end of a series of engagements aimed at strengthening ties in industry, economy and technology.

Arriving in Shanghai on Friday evening ahead of his return to Sarawak, the Premier was welcomed by officials from the Malaysian Consulate General, including Mohd Shahafeez bin Shaharis, Consul General; Aaron Gan Chai Heng, Tourism Consul; and Mohd Sawaddee Islamuddin, Investment Consul of MIDA.

A dinner reception was held to honour the Premier and his delegation, bringing together representatives and officials who had participated in the mission. The gathering symbolised the close cooperation between Sarawak and its partners in China.

The Premier’s itinerary included visits to Nanjing and Suzhou, where discussions centred on expanding industrial collaboration, enhancing economic partnerships and exploring technological innovation.

These engagements reflect Sarawak’s broader strategy to strengthen international cooperation and attract investment opportunities that align with the state’s long-term development goals.

Observers note that the Premier’s trip underscores Sarawak’s commitment to building stronger global connections, particularly with China, which remains one of the state’s key partners in trade and technology.

The visit also highlights Sarawak’s ambition to position itself as a competitive player in regional economic growth.

The Premier is scheduled to return to Sarawak tomorrow, following the conclusion of his engagements in Shanghai.
