Roofing Aid Delivered to 22 Doors of Samun Longhouse

SELANGAU – Twenty-two households at the Samun Anyot Longhouse in Data Penyarai have received roofing materials to improve their homes, marking a step forward in enhancing safety and comfort for the community.

The assistance was provided under the People-Friendly Project (MyKhas), funded through the allocation of Selangau Member of Parliament Edwin Banta.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support rural communities and ensure basic needs are met in interior regions.

Tuai Rumah Samun, who represented the longhouse residents, expressed gratitude for the contribution. “This assistance is very meaningful and provides comfort and well-being to the residents even though we live far in the interior,” he said during the handover ceremony on Wednesday.

The roofing materials are expected to strengthen the durability of the homes, offering better protection against weather conditions and improving the overall living environment.

For many families, the upgrade represents not only improved housing but also greater peace of mind.

Programmes such as MyKhas are designed to deliver practical aid directly to communities, focusing on infrastructure and household improvements.

In rural Sarawak, where access to resources can be limited, such initiatives play a crucial role in bridging development gaps and ensuring inclusivity.

The longhouse, like many others in the region, has faced challenges in maintaining housing standards due to its remote location.

By providing roofing materials, the project addresses a pressing need while reinforcing the government’s commitment to rural welfare.

Community leaders have highlighted that similar assistance projects contribute to long-term resilience by reducing maintenance costs and improving living standards.

They also encourage residents to continue engaging with official channels to voice their needs, ensuring that future allocations are directed effectively.

The Samun Anyot Longhouse project reflects a broader push to ensure rural communities are not left behind in Sarawak’s development agenda.

With housing improvements now underway, residents are hopeful that further initiatives will continue to uplift their quality of life and strengthen community well-being.
