Sarawak Strengthens Trade Ties with Indonesia Through UAECC-Facilitated Meeting

Sarawak Strengthens Trade Ties with Indonesia Through UAECC-Facilitated Meeting

KUCHING — In a move to boost regional economic cooperation, the United Asian Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce (UAECC) has arranged a high-level meeting between Himpunan Pengusaha Muda Indonesia (HIPMI) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). The engagement, set for 19 December 2025 at the MATRADE Sarawak office, highlights efforts to deepen trade relations between Sarawak and Indonesia.

The meeting aims to provide a platform for dialogue on bilateral trade opportunities, market access, and long-term commercial partnerships. UAECC emphasised that Sarawak is strategically positioned as a gateway for Indonesia–Malaysia economic collaboration, offering opportunities for entrepreneurs on both sides to explore sustainable trade and investment avenues.

MATRADE, Malaysia’s national trade promotion agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), plays a pivotal role in supporting exporters, promoting Malaysian products globally, and facilitating market intelligence and trade fairs. By engaging with HIPMI members, the agency expects to provide insights into Sarawak’s trade landscape, export potential, and competitive advantages within Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region.

UAECC noted that the initiative is part of a broader vision to strengthen Sarawak–Indonesia economic ties beyond traditional networking. Discussions are likely to focus on trade facilitation, investment promotion, SME development, and regional market expansion, enabling entrepreneurs from both countries to establish long-term business partnerships built on trust and shared opportunities.

The engagement is seen as a strategic step in reinforcing Sarawak’s position as a regional trade hub while empowering local and Indonesian entrepreneurs to collaborate effectively. UAECC hopes this meeting will pave the way for more structured and sustainable economic cooperation in the years ahead, benefitting both nations through increased trade and investment flows.
