Vellfire Driver Remanded Over Viral Johor Jaya Crash

PASIR GUDANG – A young driver of a Toyota Vellfire multi-purpose vehicle has been remanded by police following a viral road rage incident that left a motorcyclist injured in Taman Johor Jaya here earlier this week. The case, which drew widespread public attention after a video circulated on social media, is now under active police investigation.

Seri Alam Deputy District Police Chief, Superintendent Vikra Mathitthan, confirmed that the suspect, an 18-year-old local man, was arrested at about 9.40pm on Thursday. The arrest was made after police acted on information related to the incident, which reportedly took place on Wednesday evening.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident began when the motorcyclist was alleged to have blocked the path of the MPV. The situation escalated when the driver of the Vellfire sounded his horn, leading to a heated disagreement between the two individuals. What started as a verbal confrontation later turned physical, resulting in a fight at the scene.

Police said the MPV driver later drove his vehicle into the motorcyclist, causing injuries to the victim and damage to the vehicle involved. The motorcyclist was rushed to Johor Bahru Sultan Ismail Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. He suffered minor injuries to several parts of his body and sustained bleeding to the head. Medical staff have confirmed that his condition is stable.

The victim’s wife, who was riding as a pillion passenger at the time of the incident, also sustained minor injuries. She was reportedly dragged during the incident, adding to the seriousness of the case and raising public concern over road safety and aggressive driving behaviour.

Superintendent Vikra said the suspect has been remanded for seven days starting Friday to assist in investigations. The case is being probed under Sections 307, 506, 160 and 182 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987. These sections relate to attempted murder, criminal intimidation, affray, providing false information, and reckless driving.

Further checks revealed that the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs. However, investigations by the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division found that the suspect was driving recklessly and had allegedly lodged a false police report regarding the incident.

The case came to public attention after a video went viral online showing a black Toyota Vellfire crashing into a motorcyclist. In the footage, a woman was seen attempting to stop the driver before the vehicle lost control and skidded into a roadside drain.

Police have reminded all road users to remain calm and patient, especially during disagreements on the road, as reckless actions can lead to serious consequences and endanger innocent lives.
