KUCHING – More than 1,000 runners turned up in high spirits as the “Beware of Buaya” Fun Run made its successful debut in Kuching on Saturday night, marking a new milestone in Malaysia’s recreational running scene. The event, held at the MBKS area, was recognised as the first fun run in the country to introduce a team-based concept, attracting participants of all ages and backgrounds.
The fun run began at 6.30pm and continued until 10pm, allowing runners to enjoy the cooler evening weather and the night view around the MBKS region. Covering a relaxed distance of five kilometres, the run had no time limit, making it suitable for families, children and casual runners who wanted to take part without pressure. The atmosphere was lively yet friendly, with participants focusing on enjoyment rather than competition.
One of the main attractions of the event was its unique team concept. Participants were divided into Team Buaya and Team Duck, each representing a fun and creative theme. Team Buaya members received a fierce yet cute crocodile statue, while Team Duck participants were given a cheerful duck statue. This creative idea added excitement and team spirit throughout the event, encouraging friendly rivalry and strong group support.
Every participant also received a limited edition “Beware of Buaya” T-shirt, an exclusive finisher medal featuring an MBKS icon, and an electronic certificate. As promised by the organisers, all runners who completed the run received their medals, regardless of finishing time. The night concluded with exciting activities and lucky draws, keeping the crowd engaged even after the run ended.
Adding to the excitement was a special team challenge, where the first three runners from any team were rewarded with special prizes for their entire team. This rule encouraged teamwork and collective motivation rather than individual focus, aligning with the event’s core concept.
The event received strong support from the local community and sponsors, reflecting the growing interest in healthy lifestyles and community-based activities in Kuching. The official media partners, Kuching King and Sarawak Daily, played a key role in promoting the event and providing coverage that helped draw large participation.
Overall, the “Beware of Buaya” Fun Run was widely regarded as a successful and well-organised event. Its fresh concept, inclusive approach and festive atmosphere left a positive impression on participants. Many runners expressed hope that the event would return in the future, possibly becoming an annual highlight in Kuching’s sporting calendar.
